As per the regulatory requirements, it is mandatory for your maid to undergo a medical examination conducted by a Singapore-registered doctor within 14 days of her arrival. This examination verifies her fitness for work and screens for infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, HIV, syphilis, and malaria. The issuance of her Work Permit is contingent upon her passing the medical examination. To ensure continued fitness for work, you are obligated to arrange a medical screening for your maid every six months during her employment.

As per the regulations set by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), employers in Singapore are required to pay a monthly levy for each foreign domestic worker (FDW) employed. The levy amount is $300.00 per month or $10 per day for the period the work permit is valid.

However, for Singaporeans with young children below 12 years or elderly individuals above 65 years residing in the same household, a concessionary rate of SGD 60.00 per month is offered.

The levy collection is handled by the CPF Board on behalf of MOM. For first-time FDWs, the levy begins on the fourth day of their arrival, excluding the day of arrival. For subsequent FDWs, the levy starts the day after their arrival. The levy payment should be made through GIRO, and it is crucial to maintain a valid GIRO account to avoid the cancellation of the FDW’s Work Permit.

Employers are given a grace period of up to 14 days to make the levy payment, which should be settled by the 14th of the following month. The actual levy deduction through GIRO occurs three days later, typically on the 17th of the following month. In cases where the 17th falls on a non-working day, the deduction is made on the next working day. Compliance with the levy payment is essential to ensure the smooth employment of your FDW and to fulfill the regulatory obligations set by MOM.
